Simon Carey

A Highland supporter at heart, Simon embarked on his CA career in Dunedin before exploring opportunities across the ditch. Ultimately, he found his professional home in Christchurch, where he has spent 20 years building a specialised valuation and corporate finance practice, gaining recognition as a director and partner of an international accounting firm prior to co-founding Qalibre.

Simon seamlessly blends financial acumen with governance insight.  With a decade-long tenure as a past director on the board of the External Reporting Board, a crown body responsible for financial reporting and auditing standards in New Zealand, he has honed his governance skills. As a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors, he regularly contributes as an Advisory Board member for several Qalibre clients and in his current role as Treasurer of the Canterbury Medical Research Foundation board of trustees.

Simon is the go-to expert at Qalibre for navigating the complexities of business and share valuations, delivering practical solutions that make a difference for his clients. Conducting more than 30 assignments (including forensic investigations) annually across diverse industries, he has garnered broad exposure and knowledge, making him an experienced authority in the field. This is supported by his transactional experience where he advises clients selling and buying businesses. This expertise seamlessly extends to the courtroom, where he appears as an expert witness in client litigation cases.
